This event is of global importance, drawing athletes from around the world and is organized by the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo, and the Italian RS21 class. Supported by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia’s Department of Tourism, Crafts, and Commerce, the championship promises not only thrilling races but also a strong emphasis on sustainability and innovation—values deeply rooted in local administration efforts.

The championship will feature a spectacular team race format, where teams with an equal number of boats (2 vs. 2 or more) compete in direct elimination rounds. This format, akin to Match Racing, involves on-the-water refereeing and demands a deep understanding of racing rules and tactics.

Registrations are now open, with elite teams expected to compete from regions such as the United States, Brazil, Europe (including England and Ireland), and the United Arab Emirates. The first Italian team to register is the home team, NOX Oceani, featuring two crews who are the reigning RS21 World Champions from last year, having secured first and second places in the Under 23 category.

During the event, the “Blue Village” will be set up in the square in front of the Yacht Club Porto Rotondo. This space will host conferences on environmental, sports, and technological topics, showcasing concrete actions for a sustainable future.

“The Blue Village will be a platform for presenting the most innovative and sustainable solutions in an open, interactive dialogue with representatives from companies and startups,” explains Luca Giovannini, the event's creator. “This section of the event aims to inspire participants, particularly young people, by demonstrating how technology and research can drive a more sustainable future. Our goal is to make the event a model of sustainability that extends beyond the physical venue, spreading its message to a wider audience. Additionally, with the help of industry experts, we will implement cutting-edge solutions to measure and offset the event’s carbon footprint, making the Blue Village a tangible example of how to minimize the environmental impact of large-scale events like the RS21 Innovative Sailing World Championship.”
